Members of the Judiciary Senior Management Committe in the Kayoola Electric Coach

By 9:00am, Members of the Judiciary Senior Management Committee led by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana, were already seated in the cushy seats of the first Judiciary bus ready to test and taste what it has to offer.

The excursion which started from the Judiciary headquarters at Plot 2, The Square to Jinja fast turned into a learning experience for all.

Mr Richard Nyakana, one of the bus' two operators of the Kayoola Electric Coach explained its unique features. He said the Coach, recently donated to the Judiciary by President Museveni, was made in Uganda and does not use fuel but is instead rechargeable.

Mr Nyakana noted that the bus has an inbuilt speed governor that regulates how fast it goes.

The 41-seater bus has a foot rest, adjustable seats with portable phone-charging ports, in-built tv screens and microphones, illuminated walk-way with a carpet and is airconditioned. There are also CCTV cameras which are monitored by the bus' operators.

In Jinja, the Committee visited the Uganda Railways Museum where they were taken through the journey of the first railway line.

The Museum details life before the first Railway line, its construction and the challenges it came with and the impact after its construction.

It has a section for artefacts, literature, photos, charts marking significant years in the railway journey as well as its milestones.

The railway journey was concluded with an eight-minute documentary.

The Under Secretary, Ms Maureen Kasande, explained that the Judiciary is hosting several visitors and that it’s important to know where they will be taking them.

The Permanent Secretary observed that the time spent on Labour Day on the excursion was time well-spent as it provided insight into important history of the country. He also extended gratitude to the President for adding to the Judiciary fleet with the donation of the electric bus.
